4    INCOME OF COTTON FARMER

4.1    Successful research for evolving high yielding cultivars and also GOP’s production package for the farmers has been responsible for increasing the income and raising the standard of living of cotton farmers.  

4.2    Increase in the income of cotton farmer over the year is evident from the following:

 

Production of cotton during 1969-70 =  3.149 million bales
Production of cotton during 2000-1 =  10.681 million bales
Increase in production =  7.532 million bales
Assume price of one bale of cotton =  Rs. 1l,000/-(Rs. 2,465/md on 2.8.03)
Increase in income of farmers due =  Rs. 83,000 million
to increase in production =  or US $ 1.4 thousand million
