11    ENVIRONMENT AND CONTAMINATION FREE COTTON

11.1    Environment has become very important world over. Pakistan is no exemption. In the ginning factories chances o workers getting “bisynocis exist”. Pakistan cottons are notoriously dirty. Non-lint is given in table-4 ante. Locally cottons are hand picked and should, therefore, be clean to start with. Yet Pak cottons contain large amount of trash and are also contaminated by foreign matter like hessian and polypropylene fibres. Government has recently banned the use of hessian and has directed that cotton bags for phutti and cotton cloth should be used as wrapping material for cotton bales. Thus, it is hoped, will go a long way in reducing contamination. Premiums have also been announced for clear cotton.
