13    POWER LOOM AND SHUTTLE LESS LOOM SECTOR

13.1    Originally power loom sector was patronized to create employment. It was allowed tax breaks, which were denied to organize sector with the result that this sector flourished at the cost of organized sector. Accurate figures are not available, however, estimates range from 250,000 to 350,000 looms.

13.2    Shuttles less looms have been and are being installed in the country. Good quality yarn is required for these looms to produce quality fabric. The emphasis is on quality and these looms meet quality requirements. This sector needs further encouragement by the Government.
