15 EXPORT OF COTTON AND COTTON MANUFACTURES
15.1 Cotton textile and down stream industries did not exist and the time of
independence.
Their establishment and pre-eminence in export trade of the world is a tribute
to Pakistani
businessmen. Cotton and cotton manufactures earns approximately 65% of the total
foreign
exchange earned by the country.
15.2 Export performance of cotton and cotton manufactures is given in
table 7.

15.3 Pakistan has emerged as a world power in so far as yam and cloth is
concerned. The
share of Pakistan in yarn and cloth trade of the world is shown in table-8.

15.4 Performance of textile sector of Pakistan is commendable in any language.
However,
unit export value has to be improved. It is low at present as shown in Table-9.
Efforts should
be made to improve this aspect.
