12. GINNING:
12.1 With the rapid progress and spread of cotton cultivation,
need for sawgins was felt. The first sawgin was installed in Khanewal in
1917-18 and the second one also at Khanewal in 192l Turner, (1929) Presently,
almost the entire upland crop is sawginned.
12.2 It is estimated that about 1200 ginning factories exist
in the country. However, since ginning is a seasonal industry it is difficult
to calculate exact capacity. Ginning capacity depends upon the number of
working days. For the present ginning season of 90 days is in vogue.
