14. GINNING OUT TURN (GOT):
14.1 Ginner is obsessed with GOT and even a small drop in GOT
means great financial loss for the ginner. For example, if GOT was assumed
at 33 percent and a production of 10 million bales, an increase of only
one percent in GOT will mean an additional 0.030 million bales. Thus the
price of 303030 bales is involved in the profit of the ginner with every
increase of one percent.
14.2 Assuming a bale of 170 Kg. and MNH-93 spot rate of 04.08.1996
at Rs.2,464.00 per 40, Kgs. the price of 303030 bales worked out to be
Rs.3401 million, IT IS NOW CRYSTAL CLEAR AS TO WHY GINNER IS SO OBSESSED
WITH GOT.
14.3 To remove this obsession of GOT it is urged that the American
system of custom ginning may be introduced and encouraged.
14.4 NON-LINTCONTENT. (NLC)
14.4.l There is very little 'improvement in ginning process in
Pakistan ever since the first sawgin was installed. The non-lint content
according to PCCC Quality Survey is given in Table 13.
TABLE 13: NON-LINT CONTENT OF PAKISTAN COTTONS (G.F)

Source: Quality Survey of Pakistan Cottons (G.F) PCCC, Karachi.
14.4.2 The non-lint content as detailed in Table 13 is schoking
specially if compared with the non-lint content of American or even CIS
cottons. NLC not only determines premium but also affects the efficiency
of the opening process in a textile mill. Short blow-room is the rule these
days and, therefore, cotton with less trash is preferred. Moreover, pre-cleaning
process in a gin is comparatively gentler than the textile mill. Cleaner
cotton therefore commands premium.
